Security manager at Zaporizhzhya NPP is killed in a car explosion
Ukraine Defense Intelligence hints at revenge for collaboration with occupation authorities
Ukraine Defense Intelligence (GUR) reports on the death of Andrii Korotky, the head of physical protection [Kommersant later reported that he was the head of the badging office] at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), occupied by Russia. Mr. Korotky was killed on the morning of October 4th by an explosive device placed in his car. ZNPP confirmed the death of the employee, although without mentioning his position.
According to the GUR, Mr. Korotky worked at the station before the occupation and, after the occupation, collaborated with Russian authorities, including identifying employees supporting Ukraine, taking part in the repressions of the ZNPP personnel, and was a member of Enerhodar city council from “United Russia,” the ruling political party in Russia supporting Putin’s policies. GUR concludes with a warning that “fair retribution is waiting for every war criminal.“
The tone and content of the GUR report, including a video of the blast, hints at GUR involvement.
This accident will likely increase the level of stress and anxiety of ZNPP employees, thus increasing the risk of mistakes and safety accidents.
